Gum Air flies out of Zorg en Hoop, the small airfield inside Paramaribo itself, rather than the international airport 45 km away — which is the first thing to get right when planning an interior trip. The office is at Doekhieweg Oost 3, open Monday to Friday 07:30 to 16:00 and Saturday until 12:00, closed Sunday, on +597 498760 or +597 432057 with WhatsApp on +597 745-5447.

It runs scheduled and charter services to airstrips in the Surinamese interior, where most lodges and villages have no road access at all, plus international charters to Guyana and French Guiana.

If you are booking an interior programme through a tour operator, the flight is usually part of it. If you are arranging your own, the office hours above are when someone answers — and a Saturday afternoon or Sunday problem waits until Monday.

Getting around Paramaribo, and getting out of it

There is no Uber in Paramaribo. What there is: a walkable centre, a state bus network, private minibuses, two car rental brands, river boats and a small-plane airline for the interior.
