NVB is Suriname's state-owned public transport company, successor to the Staatsbusdienst, operating under the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Tourism. Its network covers more than sixty bus routes across eight districts — Paramaribo, Wanica, Para, Saramacca, Sipaliwini, Brokopondo, Marowijne and Nickerie — plus boat services in Marowijne, Commewijne and Brokopondo.

The detail most useful to a visitor is the night bus: it runs from 21:00 to 02:00, starting and ending at Heiligenweg in central Paramaribo, via Zanderij, the Martin Luther King Highway, 4e rijweg, Wilhelminastraat and Tamanredjo.

What the government's page does not give, and what we therefore do not print, is a fare table, a route-by-route timetable or a phone number. Note also that NVB is only part of the picture: much of Paramaribo's everyday public transport is run by privately operated minibuses alongside the state service, and we have not found any official source describing those.

Getting around Paramaribo, and getting out of it

There is no Uber in Paramaribo. What there is: a walkable centre, a state bus network, private minibuses, two car rental brands, river boats and a small-plane airline for the interior.
