Readytex Art Gallery is at Steenbakkerijstraat 30 in central Paramaribo, and by its own account has been going for thirty-three years. It represents nineteen Surinamese visual artists — emerging, mid-career and established — and works as an intermediary between them and collectors. WhatsApp is +597 894-5911.
This is the serious answer to the souvenir question. Suriname has a real contemporary art scene that most visitors never encounter, and a gallery that represents its artists directly is a better place to spend money than a stall selling imported crafts.
Two practicalities we could not resolve: the gallery publishes no opening hours anywhere we could check, so message ahead. And while it is widely described as also selling clothing and craft items across several floors, that comes only from aggregator sites, not from the gallery, so treat the art as what is confirmed and the rest as a maybe.
