A guided walking tour through Paramaribo's kitchens and markets with several tastings, typically three to four hours, sold by more than one operator. Published prices range from EUR 39 to EUR 55 per person as of September 2026.
Prices are printed exactly as the seller published them on the date shown, in the seller's currency, and are not converted. A seller with no published price shows "Not published".
A guided eating walk is the quickest way into Paramaribo, because the city's food is its clearest map of who lives here: Javanese warungs, Hindustani roti shops, Creole eating houses and Chinese kitchens within a few kilometres of each other. The tours on sale in September 2026 follow that logic. The version we read in most detail starts at the Central Market on the Waterkant among the spice trays and the fish hall, moves to the street carts for bara, bakabana and telo, sits down in a roti shop where the roti is turned by hand on the tawa, and ends in Blauwgrond, the Javanese neighbourhood in the north of the city, with a bowl of saoto. Six to eight tastings are included in the price and you are told not to eat beforehand.
Two sellers publish a price: METS lists a Culture Market Tour from EUR 39 and Switi Tours a four-hour food tour at EUR 55 per person. Switi Tours is owned by the owner of this site; its row in the table below is printed on the same terms as everyone else's and the relationship is stated wherever it appears. A third listing, Jenny Tours' Nyan Switi Plus & City Tour at EUR 65, shows a duration of two days on the operator's overview page, which does not describe a food walk, so it is not counted until a person has read the product page.
A food tour is one of the few excursions that suits a solo traveller on a first evening: it is on foot, in the city, and the small-group format means you are eating with people rather than alone.
The trips that take five hours or less: the sunset dolphin boat, guided city walks, the food tour, a morning at Peperpot, the fort across the river and the free inner city. Plus why Jodensavanne, Brownsberg and Colakreek are not half days.
There is no single best tour from Paramaribo. Decide what you came for — history, animals, food, the river, or simply an afternoon — and the choice narrows to one or two. With published prices, the alternatives, and how booking actually works in this market.
Which Paramaribo excursions run for one person, which need two, three, four or six before they leave, which operators publish dates you can join, and the questions to put to an operator before you pay. From the operators' own pages, read 6 September 2026.
