Short answer: there is no universal best tour here, because the trips answer different questions. Say what you came for and the field narrows fast: history means a city walk or a plantation day, wildlife means the estuary or a turtle beach in season, one free afternoon means the 16:00 boat, one full day means Commewijne or Jodensavanne, one night away means Brownsberg, Galibi or a jungle lodge. Published prices run from EUR 22 to EUR 95 for day trips.
Which tour fits what I came for?
Read the first column as the reason you came. Each row gives the cheapest verified option for that reason and one alternative, so no trip wins twice.
Published per-person prices read on the sellers' own pages on 6 September 2026, except where another date is given.

History
Start with the historic inner city walking guide, which costs nothing, then decide whether you want a guide for the parts the buildings do not say aloud. Guided walks are published at EUR 22 by Jenny Tours, from EUR 35 by METS and at EUR 35 by Switi Tours (owner of this site), whose three-hour version includes Fort Zeelandia entry. For plantations, forts and the slavery and indenture history, the fuller day is Commewijne. Both are set out in history tours in Suriname.
Historic Inner City of Paramaribo (UNESCO World Heritage site)
The historic centre of Paramaribo is a UNESCO World Heritage site inscribed in 2002, covering a former Dutch colonial town of the 17th and 18th centuries whose original street plan and over 250 monuments survive.
Wildlife
The estuary dolphin boat is the cheapest wildlife trip and the closest; the turtle beaches at Braamspunt and Galibi are seasonal and the sources disagree about when that season is; Bigi Pan's bird numbers are in the far west and cost two or three days. Nothing is guaranteed anywhere, which wildlife tours in Suriname explains animal by animal.
Sunset and dolphins boat trip from Leonsberg
A three- to five-hour afternoon boat trip from the Leonsberg jetty down the Suriname River to the estuary where Guiana dolphins live, returning at sunset. Sold by at least five Paramaribo operators from EUR 27.50 to EUR 60 per person as of September 2026; sightings are never guaranteed.
Food
The food tour is the one excursion that also solves dinner. Switi Tours (owner of this site) runs a four-hour version from the Central Market to Blauwgrond with six to eight tastings; METS lists a Culture Market Tour at a lower published price without stating a start time. Both are walking tours in a hot city, so the late start is deliberate.
Paramaribo food tour
A guided walking tour through Paramaribo's kitchens and markets with several tastings, typically three to four hours, sold by more than one operator. Published prices range from EUR 39 to EUR 55 per person as of September 2026.
The river
Two river days exist: the Commewijne plantation boat, leaving Leonsberg between 08:30 and 09:00 for seven to eight hours, and the Jodensavanne river trip, nine hours from the waterfront. The dolphin boat is the short version of the same water. All three, plus the Braamspunt turtle night, are compared in boat tours from Paramaribo.
Commewijne plantation boat tour
A one-day boat and road excursion from Paramaribo through Commewijne's plantation belt, usually calling at Fort Nieuw-Amsterdam, Frederiksdorp and Peperpot or Rust en Werk. Sold by at least six operators from about EUR 60 to EUR 85 per person as of September 2026.
One afternoon, one day, one night
For an afternoon, see half-day excursions. For a full day, day trips from Paramaribo compared has the distances and what is open. For a night away, Brownsberg two-day trips are published from EUR 145, Galibi from EUR 175 in season, Fredberg from EUR 285, and the interior river lodges from EUR 260 for three days — those need a flight from Zorg en Hoop and are compared in jungle lodges. If you have five days, our five-day route puts them in order.
Jodensavanne Archaeological Site
UNESCO-listed remains of a 17th-century Jewish settlement on the Suriname River, including the ruins of what is believed to be the earliest architecturally significant synagogue in the Americas and the older Cassipora Creek cemetery.
Brownsberg Nature Park
A nature park of roughly 12,000 hectares on a plateau in Brokopondo district south of Paramaribo, with rainforest trails, waterfalls and views over the Brokopondo reservoir.
Galibi Sea Turtle Nesting Tour
Seasonal overnight trip to the Galibi Nature Reserve at the mouth of the Marowijne River to watch sea turtles come ashore to nest. Reached by road to Albina and then about an hour by boat, with accommodation in or near the indigenous villages.
How booking works here
Direct booking is normal in this market and is not a warning sign. Most operators expect a WhatsApp message, an email or a website form, and confirm by hand.
Only two sellers we read state that they take payment online: Jenny Tours, whose site advertises a webshop with iDeal, Sofort, credit card and PayPal, and the reseller All Suriname Tours, which lists cash in its office or online payment by iDeal, Apple and Android Pay or bank transfer. Orange Travel takes bookings through an online form, though we could not verify whether payment is processed there. Cardy Adventures ends its tour pages with a contact link and we saw no payment flow. METS takes phone and email. SUforYou publishes dated group departures with the number of places left, which is unusual here and useful if you are one or two people. Access Suriname Travel uses a form, phone and WhatsApp. Switi Tours (owner of this site) takes enquiries by form, WhatsApp or email, asks a 20 per cent deposit and the balance in cash on the day, and states free cancellation up to 48 hours before departure.
Cancellation terms are the least published part of this market. Jenny Tours states penalties of 25 per cent between 21 and 30 days before departure, 50 per cent from 10 to 20 days and the full price inside 10 days. Orange Travel publishes payment methods but no cancellation terms, and we found none on the Cardy site at all. Ask in writing before you pay a deposit. Operator by operator, this is laid out in Suriname tour operators compared.
One gap you should know about: Viator and GetYourGuide both blocked our fetcher, so no price from either platform is recorded anywhere on this site. If you find a Suriname trip cheaper there, we cannot tell you whether it is the same product.
What this page does not tell you
We do not rank operators, and we do not know which of these tours you would enjoy. Minimum group sizes decide more than price does: many trips run daily but only from two, three, four or six people, and few sellers say what happens when the minimum is not met. Nobody publishes lead times except Jenny Tours for Galibi. Prices for the same trip differ by up to 40 per cent between sellers and two operators contradict themselves on their own pages, so treat every figure here as a starting point to confirm.
Prices and booking details were read on the sellers' own pages on 6 September 2026 unless another date is given. Switi Tours is owned by the owner of this site; it is named where it publishes a product, in the same lists and at the same published prices as every other seller, and it is never ranked first for that reason.
Common questions
- What is the best tour from Paramaribo?
There is no single answer. For history, the guided inner-city walk or a Commewijne plantation day; for wildlife, the estuary dolphin boat or a turtle beach in season; for a first full day, Commewijne or Jodensavanne. Published prices run from EUR 22 for a city walk to EUR 95 for a Brownsberg day.
- Can you book tours in Suriname online?
Sometimes. Jenny Tours runs a webshop and the reseller All Suriname Tours takes online payment; Orange Travel and Access Suriname Travel use website forms; Cardy Adventures, METS and Switi Tours take enquiries by form, phone, WhatsApp or email. Direct contact is normal here, not a warning sign.
- How far in advance should you book a tour in Suriname?
Only one operator publishes a lead time: Jenny Tours asks for Galibi bookings at least five days ahead. Most sell daily departures subject to a minimum of two to six people, so booking early mainly protects you against a trip that does not reach its minimum.
