Short answer: using only prices we could verify at source on 24 August 2026, a week in Suriname costs roughly USD 700–900 per person on a lean budget, USD 1,200–1,600 mid-range, and USD 2,200–3,000 for a comfortable trip with a multi-day interior lodge, excluding international flights. The single biggest variable is not hotels or food; it is whether you go into the interior, because an all-inclusive jungle programme costs more than the rest of the week combined.
Below, every number is either a published price we read at its source today or something we say we could not source. There are real gaps, and they are marked as gaps rather than filled with guesses.
The currency, dated
Suriname uses the Surinamese dollar (SRD). On 24 August 2026 at 07:30, De Surinaamsche Bank published USD at 37.23 buying / 37.99 selling and EUR at 43.43 / 44.32.
Use those rates as the reference point for every SRD figure below, and re-check them before you travel. This is a currency that has moved a great deal; a conversion printed today is a snapshot, not a rule.
De Surinaamsche Bank (DSB)
De Surinaamsche Bank is a Surinamese commercial bank offering payment accounts, card services, internet banking and a mobile app. It publishes daily buying and selling rates for the US dollar and the euro against the Surinamese dollar on its website.
Fixed costs before you land
Entry Fee: USD 50 or EUR 50 per entry, plus a USD 8 / EUR 8 VFS Global service fee. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' announcement sets the rate at USD 50 / EUR 50 effective 15 May 2024. A second ministry announcement introduced a Multiple Entry voucher at USD 75 / EUR 75 from 1 May 2025, valid three months for up to five entries, and exempted children aged 0 to 2 from any Entry Fee. Airport transfer: from USD 18 per person return by bus, or from USD 40 one way by private car. A SIM or eSIM: SRD 400–800. Digicel Suriname lists 30-day tourist eSIMs at SRD 400 (5GB), SRD 600 (10GB) and SRD 800 (15GB), tax excluded, and a preloaded physical "SIM-To-GO" at SRD 750. Telesur's prepaid bundles run from SRD 33 (150MB / 12 hours) to SRD 953 (a 30-day large bundle).
Digicel Suriname
Digicel Suriname is a mobile operator offering prepaid service, a 30-day tourist eSIM in three data tiers, and a preloaded prepaid physical SIM sold as SIM-to-GO. Its Suriname site runs a store locator and the MyDigicel app is used for activation and plan management.
Cash access: SRD 17.60 per ATM withdrawal. Since 1 August 2026 a withdrawal costs SRD 17.60 including VAT at any BNETS, Cashpnt or bank ATM. It is a flat fee, so take fewer, larger amounts; Republic Bank's daily ceiling of SRD 20,000 is the highest we found. See money and ATMs in Paramaribo.
Republic Bank Suriname
Suriname arm of the Caribbean Republic Bank group, running the country’s largest commercial ATM network, and the network most likely to accept foreign Visa and Mastercard.
Accommodation: what is actually published
Very few Paramaribo hotels publish a rate on their own website. Two that do, both read on 24 August 2026:
- Zeelandia Suites, Kleine Waterstraat 1: "Rates from $52.17 per night" for the Terrace and Balcony Suites, "$78.26 per night" for the Family Suite, with complimentary wifi.
- Hotel Palacio, Heerenstraat 9: "Rates from $60 when available", breakfast included at the standard rate, with a room-only rate also offered.
Zeelandia Suites
Small suite hotel on Kleine Waterstraat about 100 metres from Fort Zeelandia, with air-conditioned suites and free WiFi. The property also runs the 't Vat cafe and De Verdieping restaurant and event space.
Hotel Palacio
Small 22-room hotel on Heerenstraat inside Paramaribo's UNESCO-listed historic inner city. Rooms have private bathrooms, air conditioning and WiFi, and breakfast is included on standard rates.
Both are inside walking distance of the historic centre, which quietly removes a transport line from your budget.
For the resorts and the international chains (Torarica, Royal Torarica, Eco Torarica, Krasnapolsky, Courtyard by Marriott, Ramada) we have no publisher-verified nightly rate and are not going to invent a range. Six nights at USD 55–80 is what the two verifiable properties support, and that is the number the budget below uses.

Cardy Adventures states its bike tours include "a comfortable bike; comprehensive information of the guide; free use of a raincoat; boat transport tickets; coffee break" plus fruit and non-alcoholic drinks, with group sizes of 5–14.
Cardy Adventures
Paramaribo operator specialising in guided bicycle tours through the former plantation belt of Commewijne, plus Peperpot and boat variants. Tours run as full days with bikes, guide and meals included.
Jenny Tours Suriname
Paramaribo tour operator on the Waterkant selling a large catalogue of day trips, multi-day tours and round trips, including Commewijne plantation and Frederiksdorp bicycle tours, dolphin spotting, Brownsberg and sea turtle trips. States it operates most tours with its own guides.
Orange Travel's catalogue spans roughly €75 to €3,561, which tells you the range exists but is not a budgeting number.
The interior: the line item that decides your total
All-inclusive, per person, from the operators' own pages on 24 August 2026:
- Knini Paati River Resort, 3 days: €345, quoted by All Suriname Tours as "Total price, no additional costs", including transport, guide, accommodation, hammock, all meals and admission; excluding alcohol, insurance and personal expenses. The 4-day version is €430.
- Awarradam Jungle Lodge, 4 or 5 days: from €425 (METS).
- Palumeu Jungle Lodge, 4 or 5 days: from €665.
- Kasikasima jungle expedition, 5 or 8 days: from €808.
METS Travel & Tours
Long-established Paramaribo tour operator that runs its own jungle lodges in the Surinamese interior, including Awarradam, Palumeu and the Kasikasima base camp, plus day trips and city tours. Also books hotels, transfers and river cruises.
Awarradam Jungle Lodge
Jungle lodge at the Awaadan rapids on the Gran Rio, about 225 km from Paramaribo in Saramaccan territory, reached by light aircraft and korjaal; stays are sold as multi-day packages.
A three-day interior programme therefore adds roughly €345–425 to a week; a longer or more remote one adds €665–808 or more. Compare them in jungle lodges in Suriname.
What we could not source, and therefore did not price
This is the honest part, and it is a large part.
- Restaurant and warung meals. Almost no Paramaribo eating place we researched publishes prices. We hold none we can verify. If you see a "typical meal costs X" figure elsewhere, ask where it came from.
- Taxi fares within Paramaribo, and airport taxi fares. There is no metered, published tariff. Aggregator sites quote wildly inconsistent figures: we saw USD 25–45, SRD 60 and "125 Surinam guilders" for the same airport journey, a currency that no longer exists. We publish none of them.
- Bus and minibus fares. The government publishes NVB's routes but not its fares.
- Boat crossings to Commewijne. Run on demand by private operators, no published tariff.
- Supermarket and self-catering costs.
- Nightly rates for most hotels and resorts.
Three budgets, built only from the above
Per person, one week, excluding international flights. Converted at the DSB selling rates of 24 August 2026.
Lean: about USD 700–900. Entry Fee USD 58; return bus transfer USD 18; SIM ~SRD 400 (≈USD 11); six nights at a verifiable central hotel from USD 52 (USD 312); two day trips at €65–70 (≈USD 150); ATM fees a few dollars. That lands near USD 550 of verifiable spend, and we round the band up to USD 700–900 to leave headroom for food, local transport and entry tickets, the categories we cannot price. Treat the gap as unpriced, not as free.
Mid-range: about USD 1,200–1,600. The same fixed costs, six nights around USD 70–80, three or four day trips including a two-day Commewijne bike tour at €185, private car transfers, and the same unpriced food and local transport allowance.
Comfortable: about USD 2,200–3,000. Everything above plus a multi-day interior programme at €345–808, private transfers throughout, and a longer or more remote lodge.
Where you sit inside those bands depends almost entirely on the interior decision. Two travellers taking exactly the same flights and the same hotel can differ by USD 900 on that one choice.
Before you use these numbers
Every figure here carries a date because every figure here moves. The Entry Fee changed in 2024. The ATM fee changed on 1 August 2026. The exchange rate changed this morning. Re-read the linked sources rather than trusting this page's arithmetic in six months, and see when to visit before you fix dates, because season affects availability more than it affects price.
