Short answer: stay on or near Kleine Waterstraat if you want to walk to everything, in a guesthouse in the centre if you want a wooden house and a small bill, or in an apartment in Blauwgrond or Rainville if you are staying a week or more and want a kitchen. Suriname's interior lodges are a different decision and have their own comparison. This page compares the thirteen city places we have verified; it does not print rates, because none of them publishes one we can stand behind.

Choosing by neighbourhood
Kleine Waterstraat and the historic centre. Five of the thirteen sit on one short street between Fort Zeelandia and the Palmentuin, and that is not an accident: it is the only part of the city where a visitor can do without transport for days. Royal Torarica, Torarica Resort, the Ramada and Zeelandia Suites are within a few hundred metres of each other; Palacio and Krasnapolsky are a few blocks inland on Heerenstraat and Domineestraat, the shopping street. Royal Torarica
Upper-tier hotel on Kleine Waterstraat in central Paramaribo, part of the Torarica Group. Rooms range from deluxe categories to junior suites and a penthouse, and the property has a pool, sauna, jacuzzi, meeting rooms and a business centre.
Torarica Resort
Riverside resort hotel in central Paramaribo operated by the Torarica Group, on the same grounds as Royal Torarica. Facilities include a swimming pool with a shallow children's area, a tropical garden, padel courts, a spa and several restaurants and bars.
Ramada by Wyndham Princess Paramaribo
Four-star Wyndham-brand hotel on Kleine Waterstraat with 59 rooms including two presidential suites. The complex also contains the Princess Casino, a rooftop pool and lounge, a teppanyaki and sushi restaurant and a nightclub.
Zeelandia Suites
Small suite hotel on Kleine Waterstraat about 100 metres from Fort Zeelandia, with air-conditioned suites and free WiFi. The property also runs the 't Vat cafe and De Verdieping restaurant and event space.
Hotel Palacio
Small 22-room hotel on Heerenstraat inside Paramaribo's UNESCO-listed historic inner city. Rooms have private bathrooms, air conditioning and WiFi, and breakfast is included on standard rates.
Hotel Krasnapolsky
Hotel Krasnapolsky, Domineestraat 39, Centrum: long-established downtown hotel on Paramaribo's main shopping street, minutes from the Waterkant, with a 24-hour front desk and several ground-floor food outlets in the building.
The centre, cheaper. The two guesthouses are also central. Twenty4 is the only place in our database with dormitory beds; Un Pied-à-Terre is a ten-minute walk from the cathedral in a wooden house with verandas, and platform rates in 2026 ran USD 28–38 a night, among the lowest private rooms in the city. Note that Un Pied-à-Terre's own website was offline when we checked on 2 September 2026, so book through a platform or call.
Guesthouse TwenTy4
Budget guesthouse and hostel in a renovated colonial building on Jessurunstraat in Paramaribo's historic centre. It has about a dozen rooms with a choice of shared or private bathrooms, plus a garden, bar and shared lounge.
Guesthouse Un Pied-a-Terre
Guesthouse in a colonial-era house on Costerstraat, roughly a ten-minute walk from Paramaribo's historic centre. Rooms are simple, some with private bathrooms, and there is a garden, shared lounge, laundry, free WiFi and free parking.
Riverfront north. The Courtyard by Marriott on Anton Dragtenweg is the brand-hotel answer, on the river north of the centre; it is a car or taxi from the sights, and it is where business travellers tend to be. Eco Torarica sits between the two worlds on Cornelis Jongbawstraat.
Courtyard by Marriott Paramaribo
International-brand hotel on Anton Dragtenweg along the Suriname River, north of the Paramaribo historic centre. It is Marriott's only property in Suriname and is aimed largely at business travellers.
Eco Torarica
Mid-range hotel on Cornelis Jongbawstraat in Paramaribo, run by the Torarica Group and formerly trading as Eco Resort Inn. It sits a short walk from the historic centre and has an outdoor pool, a garden and a restaurant.
Blauwgrond and Rainville for longer stays. Apartments with kitchens are in the north of the city. Tucan in Blauwgrond has a pool, gym and spa around a garden; Perfect Stay in Rainville is a furnished complex bookable on the big platforms; Joah Inn is the central option with reception hours. For a first visit, the historic centre and Kleine Waterstraat: Fort Zeelandia, the Waterkant, the Palmentuin, the cathedral and the Centrale Markt are all within a twenty-minute walk. Blauwgrond and Rainville suit longer stays in apartments and put you nearer the Javanese warungs.
- Is there a hostel in Paramaribo?
Twenty4 on Jessurunstraat offers dormitory beds and private rooms and describes itself as the first and only hostel in the city; that is the operator's own claim, but it is the only dormitory option in our database.
