Brownsberg Nature Park covers about 12,000 hectares on a plateau in Brokopondo District, south of Paramaribo — rainforest walking, waterfalls, and a viewpoint over the Brokopondo reservoir. Along with Raleighvallen, it is one of only two protected areas that STINASU, the state-linked conservation foundation, currently accommodates visitors in.

That last point is the practical one. STINASU's board has been in caretaker status since 2020, and the Surinamese government's own page steers visitors towards licensed tour operators rather than booking through the foundation. If you want to go to Brownsberg, book it as a tour.

We have deliberately not published an entrance fee, accommodation rates, trail lengths or a species count. All of those circulate widely, none of them comes from a source we could verify, and several date from before the foundation's current situation. The coordinates on this entry are approximate.
