The sunset and dolphins trip is the cheapest and shortest excursion sold from Paramaribo, and the one that fits after a full day in town. Boats leave the Leonsberg jetty at the northern edge of the city between 16:00 and 16:30 and head down the Suriname River to the stretch between Leonsberg and Braamspunt where the river meets the Commewijne and the sea. That estuary holds a wild population of Guiana dolphins (Sotalia guianensis) that Green Heritage Fund Suriname has monitored since 2005. Most versions stop at a plantation on the Commewijne bank, Rust en Werk on the ones we read, and turn back to watch the sun go down over the water.
On 6 September 2026 five operators published a price: Jenny Tours EUR 27.50 (3.5 hours, 16:00, daily from four people, children and students EUR 22.50), METS from EUR 28 (three hours, report 16:00 for a 16:15 departure, three drinks and snacks included), Cardy Adventures EUR 35 (two to three hours, at least three people, transport to the jetty included), Orange Travel from EUR 60 for a five-hour version with a plantation meal and caiman spotting after dark, and a reseller, All Suriname Tours, at EUR 28 with a minimum of three. Access Suriname Travel lists a Dolphin Chill Tour without a clear price. The table below prints each seller's own terms with the date they were read.
Two things to know before you book. Dolphins are wild animals: every operator we read says or implies that sightings are likely, and none can promise them, so treat the trip as an evening on the river that usually includes dolphins. And the boats are open or lightly covered tent boats; take a light rain jacket even in the dry season and something warm for the return after sunset.
If you would rather see the estuary in daylight, the Commewijne plantation day crosses the same water in the morning, and one operator sells it as a plantation tour with dolphins.

A sand spit on the east bank of the mouth of the Suriname River, about 15 km from Paramaribo, where leatherback, green and olive ridley turtles nest between roughly February and August. Reached by boat from the Leonsberg jetty; the beach is eroding fast.
